Experienced dancers seeking creative and emotional expression.
Modern dance is a dynamic and innovative dance form that allows dancers to express themselves freely, independent of traditional ballet rules and formations. It emerged in the early 20th century as a reaction to the rigid rules of ballet and classical dance, and quickly gained widespread acceptance around the world.
Styles
Graham Technique: Developed by Martha Graham, this technique is based on bodily "tension and relaxation" movements. This style places great emphasis on dramatic emotional expression.
Cunningham Technique: Merce Cunningham emphasizes the randomness and freedom of movement. This technique uses both elements independently, instead of the simultaneity of music and movement.
Lemon Technique: José Limón developed this style, one of the basic techniques of modern dance, based on the weight of the body and its relationship with the ground.
Contact Improvisation: This style is a spontaneous type of dance based on physical contact between dancers. Two people touch each other and perform constantly changing movements.
